Mary Eleonora Mathany (nee Jamieson, nee Salter) passed away to heaven peacefully with grace and dignity on Friday April 27, 2018 at the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital. Mary was born on a farm near Smith Falls, Ontario on January 16, 1922. She was the youngest of four children born to Adam and Mary Salter, older brothers (John, Preston and Frank). She graduated from Brockville General Hospital in 1943 where she earned the General Proficiency Nursing Award. She nursed in Brockville and London where she met Charles Albert Jamieson. They married and moved to Sarnia where Mary joined the Sarnia General Hospital in 1952 as head nurse of the surgical unit and was promoted several times to Director of Nursing and retiring as Assistant Executive Director, Patient Care in 1987.

She had a long and distinguished career where she was recognized and well respected for her many health care and community contributions, having received such honours as the Queens Silver Jubilee medal in 1977, designated "Serving Sister" Saint John Ambulance in 1981 and the prestigious Order of Canada from Governor General Schreiber in 1982.

Mary was a remarkable person devoted to her family and many friends. She was a positive role model and caring respected mentor to many. She loved family gatherings, entertaining, her home and gardening and ensuring that those around her had fun times. She was truly a special and amazing wife, mother, mother in law, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.

Mary was the beloved wife of Charles Jamieson (predeceased, 1980) and WS Bud Mathany who she married in 1990 (predeceased, 1999). Loving mother of Peter Jamieson (Elizabeth) of Collingwood, Michael Jamieson (Alda Messiah) of Vancouver, Karin Beamer (Dr. Keith Beamer) of Florida, Dr. Drew Mathany (Janet) of Sarnia and Guy Mathany (Louise) of Vancouver.

Cherished grandmother of Lauren Wingate (Andrew) of St. Catharines, Alexander Jamieson of Orangeville, Stephanie Sartor (Michael) of Kingston, Brett Mathany (Hannah) of Kitchener, Erik Mathany (Natania) of Vancouver, Candice Wilke (Mark) of Vancouver, Kellie Atwell (Christopher) of Florida, Kerry Gross (David) of Florida, Christopher Jamieson (Leanne) of Vancouver, Andrew Jamieson of Vancouver and Jade and Kino Messiah of Vancouver. Treasured great-grandmother of Abigail and Hailey Wingate, Jacob and Cameron Sartor, Elle and Sydney Mathany, Tegan and Caleb Mathany, Bridget and Sloane Wilke, Madeline and Drew Gross. Dear sister in law of Margaret Salter of Hamilton.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 at the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club, 500 Errol Road, Sarnia, ON, N7V 1X7, between 2 to 4 pm.
