JORDAN MARC BIRNIE
NOVEMBER 26, 1977 – JULY 5, 2017

It is with heartbreaking sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of
Jordan Marc Birnie at home in Collingwood on July 5, 2017 at the age of 39.

Jordy, the dearly beloved son of Lynne and the late Peter Birnie will be deeply missed by his younger brother, Jeremy and his wife, Sarah, and as a loving uncle to Olivia.

Sadly missed by his grandparents Alf and Fae Spencer and many aunts, uncles and cousins in the Spencer and Birnie families, Jordy suffered with courage from the ravages of mental illness since early adolescence.

He was intelligent and loving with a charming, spontaneous wit. He had resilience and vulnerability, and a sweet compassion for everyone around him.
He was a spiritual learner with intuitive wisdom.
His happiest and most peaceful times were spent with his family and friends in Temagami where he enjoyed the best of nature.

Jordy struggled to be free of the prison of mental illness. Sadly and unexpectedly he took his own life and will always be remembered for his courage during difficult times.

There will be a funeral service at St. Paul’s United Church in New Liskeard on July 16, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with reception to follow at the New Liskeard Legion.

In honour of Jordy, the family asks that mental illness be acknowledged as a disease of the mind and one’s mental outlook. We ask that the truth be spoken to bring light and healing to so many who struggle.
