Obituary for Kathleen MacKay

Kathleen MacKay
Kathleen Esther MacKay was born on April 14th, 1925 and was a dear Mom to her children Sarah, Jamie and Martha, as well as their partners Wendy and John. Mom married Neil MacKay on June 13th, 1961, and they have had a wonderful life thoroughly devoted to each other now for the past 56 years.
Mom remained a true Brit, as she liked to say, throughout her life. At the end of the Second World War, she joined the WRENS and served her country in its time of need aboard a surrendered French Battleship. She never would give up her British passport, and was always a staunch devotee of all things to do with the Royal Family and especially the Queen.
In 1956 Mom came to Canada and moved first to Weston, then to Oakville, where she became a successful realtor. At the age of 75 she retired and had a home in Hilton Head, South Carolina, and then eventually made the move fulltime up to Collingwood.
Mom loved reading and has a den full of books at home, and lately she loved spending her mornings reading in her chair by the window, with her little dog Czilla accompanying her. She also loved history, and especially antiques, and enjoyed sharing her passion of both with others.
Mom was also a passionate donator to charities of all kinds, both for human causes and especially for animal-related ones, even donating her car to the rescue and rehabilitation of injured wildlife.
Mom always spent her life worrying about others and making sure everyone around her was looked after. Her devotion and dedication in her last decade to Dad was unwavering, and she went each and every day to the nursing home to spend time with him.
She was a great animal-lover, but especially loved her dogs, from her early life multiple Butch’s to her basset hound, Airedale terrier and Dandie Dinmont. Later on she was a granny to all her German shepherds- Hooch, Kimbo, Max and Czilla; and Jamie and Wendy’s animal family of Laika, Loki, Cookie, Tuco, Spider, Chou-Chou, George, Timmy and Lucy.
Her courage and strength right through to the end was remarkable. The family wishes to extend thanks to Dr. Lewin, Dr. Lai and the wonderful staff at Campbell House for their kindness and care. A service of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday May 26, 2017 at Fawcett Funeral Home – Collingwood Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations to the Georgian Triangle Humane Society would be appreciated.
