Obituary for Lee Pettersen

Sharon Lee Pettersen (nee Kearney)

Lee passed away at home in Blue Mountains, ON on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, ending her eight-year battle with Ovarian cancer. Although her death was peaceful, we’re sure that in her mind, she was keeping her promise to hold on to the doorframe while yelling “not yet”. During her eight years with cancer, Lee strove to encourage those around her to live large and make every day a ten because tomorrow isn’t guaranteed for anyone. She inspired other patients to live life guided by her three magic words: attitude, gratitude and hope. She always said that hope fuels the drive to survive. Her treatment at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (PMCC) allowed her to regularly dip into her bucket list and travel extensively. Lee grew up in Clarkson, attended the University of Toronto, and then settled in Etobicoke. She is predeceased by husband Leif and father Herb, and succeeded by loving partner Gord Canning, daughters Kate and Ali, mother Joyce Kearney, sisters Sandra Wayne, Robin Stewart (Sandy), Sue Kearney, brother David Kearney, sisters in law Sarah Pettersen and Bev McMaster and nephews Adam Wayne (Katie), and Ryan and Reid Stewart. A special thanks to the Oncology team under Dr. Oza at PMCC. In lieu of flowers, Lee has asked for donations to The Bras Drug Development Program (http://www.thepmcf.ca/leepettersen). A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday May 19, 2017 in the Huron Grand Ballroom at the Village Conference Centre – Blue Mountain.
