Condolence From: Sheila, Eric and family
Condolence: So sorry to hear the sad news of the passing of my brother John. Happy childhood that we had with mum and dad, plagued my life as a child pretending he'd put caterpillars in my bed! With love to the family from Sheila and Eric rowett

Condolence: When I started working in Derby one of my initial duties was to take the day's cheques and money to the bank.  The bank was Barclay's in central Derby.  I went there every day after lunch.  The bank closed at 3:00pm and I got there at about 2:30pm.  Soon I developed a passing acquaintanceship with a strikingly pretty bank teller named Janet Haywood.  I always stood in her line and we would chat as she sorted out my employer's deposits.  As it was almost the bank closing time Janet would also run a trial balance on her till so she could get away a little earlier when the bank closed.  I didn't mind this as I enjoyed talking to a pretty girl and I wasn't in any hurry to go back to my office.  My lengthy time with Janet usually resulted in a line up behind me for her service but neither she nor I cared.  Of course before long these daily line ups caught the eye of the supervisor, a tall Yorkshireman named Mr. Dixon and he would leave his seat and head over to us.  On Janet's behalf I would watch for Mr. Dixon's approach and warn her whereupon she would set aside her closing work and go back to sorting my employer's requests.  Mr. Dixon never quite figured out what was going on but eventually he started to look out for me coming in and would direct me to another teller or stand directly behind Janet when she was serving me.  Time went by and I was given different duties so my trips to the bank ceased.

Some time after I started work in Toronto I had reason to contact a Toronto bank on behalf of a client.  I was referred to a "Mr. Dixon".  Well it was my old antagonist from Derby.  After dealing with whatever the business was I told Mr. Dixon about our paths having crossed in Derby.  He remembered me (although he never knew my name) and we enjoyed a lengthy chat and a laugh about those afternoons with Janet.  I never came across Mr. Dixon again until I saw the obituary.

I feel quite sad about Mr. Dixon's passing.  I only had the briefest acquaintanceship with him but he was a man who made an unforgettable impression on me, firstly because of his valiant effort to stop me wasting the teller's time in Derby then, secondly, being able to recall it and laugh about those days during that one 'phone conversation that I had here with him.

Condolence:
My condolences to Sheila and the family.
I worked for TD Canada Trust for over 45 years and fondly remember John from my time at Dixie & Orenda branch. Coincidentally I started at Brown's Line and Horner in 1968.
John will be missed by myself and many other co-workers.
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

Dear Sheila and Family:

We have fond memories of John including the book store, Christmas parties at 221 Robinson, and of course, St. Judes church. He had a keen sense of humour and was always ready to make his customers and/or friends laugh.

Our heartfelt condolences go to you and your family at this sad time.

With God's Blessings, Sheila and Ted Gale
