Obituary for Philippe Henri Gauthier

Philippe Henri Gauthier
Philippe passed away at the age of 91, after battling cancer for several months. He had a rich life and will be deeply missed by many family members and friends. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Helen, as well as his daughters Michele Inglis (Kevin), Yvette Gauthier (Brian), Nicole DeKorte (Derek), his stepson Robert Hunter (Mary) and his stepdaughters Marilyn Maher and Shirley Stalker. Philippe is survived by his dear brother Jacques, who Philippe enjoyed visiting at his home in southern France. Philippe will be missed and fondly remembered by his grandchildren Paula, Sonia (Jim), David (Sheri), Stephanie, Connor, Matthew, Jennifer, Alexander, Angela, Vanda, Sherry (Blair), Michael, Laurie, Lisa, Paul, Phillip, Louise, Suzanne and Andrew. In addition, Philippe will be fondly remembered by his great-grandchildren Adam, Alexis, Sydney, Jack, Skyler, Sophie, Devon, Dakota, Taylor, Nathan and Graham and great great grandson Max.

Philippe survived many trials in his life; he was predeceased by his wives Jeanette and Elsie. He was also predeceased by his sisters Josette and Michele as well as his beloved brother-in-law Georges and his sister-in-law Yvette.

Philippe lived a long and full life. He left his home in southern France in 1951 to establish a new life in Canada with his young family. Despite arriving in Canada without speaking any English, he persevered and established a successful career as an electrician. He had many years of service at the Collingwood shipyards (Canada Shipyards Ltd.), where he mentored numerous apprentices and finished his career as the head of the electrical department. Beyond his career and family, Philippe enjoyed playing cards, socializing with fellow Legion members, and winning many medals from bowling leagues.

A celebration of Life service will be held at Fawcett Funeral Home in Collingwood on Wednesday February 15th at 1 p.m. Visitation will occur before the service, from 12 noon to 1 p.m.

If desired, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society as your expression of sympathy.
