Condolence: Hi Marilyn, we just found out about the passing of Hank. What a shock, I called Ron and we had a good chat re the days at South. Condolence: Dear Marilyn I was sorry to read about Henry's death. He was truly a very exceptional human being...honest,caring,intelligent and a superb lawyer. He was so good with Bill when he came back to Borden Elliot after his first heart attack. I am so grateful. It was a very difficult time in Bill's short life and Henry helped him along. Condolence: I sat beside Henry for a number of years on the Gore mutual insurance Board. Henry was a great mentor for me and taught me much about the insurance business. He was responsible for the establishment of the Gore foundation fund, used for charitable purposes and I know that Henry would be proud and happy to know the foundation fund now exceeds $12 million. Condolence: I was employed at the OSC when Henry was the Chairman. He was more that a superior, he was a friend and a mentor. I was sadly touched to learn of his passing.

Condolence: Aunt Marilyn, Lori, Krista, Craig and Michael; We remember Uncle Henry with fondness and love. He was always teasing, pushing and giving. I remember him teaching me to water ski, and how to fall during the process. He had such a wry sparkle in his eye. I also recall crossword puzzle challenges. Often he knew the answer but allowed us to struggle while thinking! He clearly valued family and the results show it. It was always fun to watch Marilyn roll her eyes knowingly at the games he was playing. I also remember reading one of his seminal speeches about fixes at the OSC and Bay Street. Condolence: Dear Marilyn, Krista and Lori I was so saddened to learn of Hank's death. I have such fond memories of life beside the Knowles' chalet in Collingwood and Hank trying to outrun the police cordon around Collingwood after a big snowstorm in order to get to a hearing at the OSC! Hank had a huge influence on my legal career encouraging me to practice securities law in era when there were very few middle-aged women in that field. He also was very helpful on the ski hill. Condolence: As “directly across the street” neighbors on Campbell Crescent for many years, the entire Spence family had great regard and love for all the Knowles at #14. As your paper boy, occasional babysitter and itinerant rock mover, I appreciated all my dealing with Mr. and Mrs. Knowles and Krista and Lori. I enjoyed running into Mr. Knowles from time to time and was pleased to see that his charm, good will and sense of humour remained always intact. He will be much missed. Condolence: I first met Hank as a room-mate on a ski instructors' course. Since we had to share rooms, I was told that I was sharing "with another old guy". At that time, neither one of us had any idea of the background of the other. Over the years, I also got to know Hank professionally, and it was an honour to know him, and to introduce him to York University. Marilyn, I share your loss, as I recently lost Jackie (after 57 years). My deepest sympathy to you and the family.

Condolence: Jeremy and I were sadenned to read of Hank's passing and we offer our condolences to you Marilyn and the girls. As former neighbours we touched only a corner of your lives but we were always impressed by his willingness to offer support to whatever venture was being pursued in the neighbourhood. Condolence: I wish to express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Knowles. Among Mr. Knowles' many, many achievements and acts of generosity, he left the legacy of a Chair of Organizational Strategy to the Schulich School of Business at York University. I was the privileged and highly grateful recipient of this Chair in business, having held it for over two decades to this day. During this time, I have reflected often on the tremendous contributions of Mr. Knowles and the profound honour of having been granted a business Chair in his name. He stands for everything that is honourable, wise, and unrelenting in his pursuit of excellence in his impressively wide array of responsibilities and accomplishments across the private, public and social sector of our society. It is my sincerest hope that in the sorrowful days ahead that his family and friends will be able to find solace in the knowledge of Mr. Knowles' impeccable character and kindness. It is with a grateful heart that I mourn the loss of a truly outstanding businessman, public servant and societal contributor. My sincerest condolences to Mr. Knowles' immediate family.

Condolence: Henry Knowles was a generous and devoted public servant who did not shrink from difficult challenges or prosecutions during his time as chairman of the Ontario Securities Commission. He had time for everyone, including a very young reporter who had so much to learn. His integrity was immeasurable. I am grateful for his help and guidance in the early years of my career. My best memory of Henry was interviewing him in his office on Wellesley Street in June sometime in the 1980s. He was working so hard that he was oblivious to the Christmas cards gathering dust on his window sills. There were few like him. My condolences to his family on his loss. Jacquie McNish

Condolence: So many years ago in London we met and enjoyed laughter with friends. My husband Sam and Henry were in the same HBA year and shared friends there as well. He was a larger than lfe personality with warmth and humour.
